Tetraopes femoratus

Tetraopes femoratus
On Hwy 49, ~ 3 mi west of Sattley, Sierra County, California, USA
July 11, 2007
This milkweed beetle was found in a patch of Showy Milkweed (Asclepias speciosa).

According to the California Beetle Database and Evan & Hogue's "Field Guide to Beetles of California"(1), there are 3 species of Tetraopes in California: T. basilis, T. femoratus, and T. sublaevis. Useful info and images for all three are available at this link. Of these three species, the only one that fits (in terms of both host plant and the detailed geographic range given in Evans & Hogue(1)) is Tetraopes femoratus.
