Size: 1 mm long
Caught this insect while it was flying. It had four long, slender wings. It is definitely not an aphid!

Mysterious winged (and flying) insect - Eulachnus
It's a male of Eulachnus rileyi. I collected these morphs also in Europe. The species is very distinct due to the colour and wax powder on the body.

ID
This is Eulachnus, a group that feeds on needles of pines, hence the narrow shape.

must be a male aphid

OK, you win!
I guess most of the "flies" in the air these days are in fact aphids. I only wish I knew what species, but that seems to be harder to pin down for adults. It's definitely not one of the woolly ones, anyway.
