I found one of these at my mom's church in Omaha, NE yesterday. It was gorgeous! It must not have appreciated being bothered because it released a stench that stayed on my hand for awhile after I touched it.

Gorgeous Beetle
I agree. They have great coloring. I think many bugs can do the stinky defense liquid.

Envious
As usual, I'm envious Lynettte. My camera hungers for one of these beauts.

Yes,
I must admit, I got quite excited when I saw it! Even my daughter was excited over this one.

Careful:-)
Calosoma willcoxi looks nearly identical. This ID (C. scrutator) is probably correct, but just wanted to suggest caution in assigning IDs.

black beetle with rosy/purple markings
I found a dead beetle like this one,but can't tell if it is the same beetle.what is its range?.I'm in CT.

Range
You can find the range on the info page here.

Thanks,
I had no idea there were other ones that looked like this. These are awesome looking! This one was about 35 mm. Big and beautiful.
