Trigonoscuta mohawki Pierce - Trigonoscuta mohawki
Mohawk Dunes, Yuma County, Arizona, USA
December 27, 2008
Size: 9 mm
I was told to dig in the loose sand under tuft grasses and wait for weevils to come tumbling out. I did, but all that rolled out were little corpses. December may have something to do with that. Charlie O'Brien IDed them anyway, and I'm going back for life ones to replace this picture, promise!

Tried and True Technique...
I observed Ed Riley employing the same technique. One apparently doesn't get a ton of beetles that way, but the ones one does get are usually good ones!

I did get a big scarab grubb
there and then(12/26/2008) with this technique, took it home and tried to feed it local grass roots. It didn't grow much, but just (10/8/2009) pupated
Maybe it'll be something interesting from those dune grasses.

great addition -- thnx!
