Tanaocerus koebelei - female

Tanaocerus koebelei - Female
Coyote Canyon, Anza Borrego State Park, San Diego County, California, USA
February 25, 2008
Considering the long antennae, and the lack of wings, my guess is that this is one of the Desert Long-horn Grasshoppers (Tanaoceridae). There are only two genera, Mohavacris with one sp. (M. timberlakei), and Tanaocerus also with one sp. (T. koebelei with ssp. albatus, and koebelei).
This one looks closest to T. koebelei posted by Jeffrey Cole.

T. koebelei
looks correct. Appears to be female, and a nymph.

Thanks, David,
and Happy 2009!
