Welcome to BugGuide!
Not an expert but I would have to agree with you based on the antenna and your location.
When measuring, only consider the body. The antenna and leg length don't get counted. If you do want to measure the whole bug, I would indicate the the length is the "overall lenght" to include legs and antenna. Most insects (and alligators and snakes) always SEEM bigger :)

You should have seen the one that got away!
I guess you're right, however it wasn't as big as an alligator.
I went back outside to measure it but couldn't find the critter.
Thanks again for your help. I feel so smart now - lol!
