Giant Fly - Tabanus catenatus

Giant Fly - Tabanus catenatus
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
July 19, 2005
Size: 25 mm
This very large fly was in my moth trap this morning. To give an idea of scale, it is sitting on top of an egg carton compartment. Its wing appeared to be severely frayed, but it could still fly powerfully.

Giant Fly
Hello;

I reside in Gatineau, I have seen this type of fly here as well, I will be adding pictures, no idea yet of what it is but it's truly huge.

Hello,

Glad to find this site as I saw a huge fly up close here in New Mexico (Northern) last evening....amazing. The size of a large bumble bee...
