grass spider mating-1 - Agelenopsis potteri - male

grass spider mating-1 - Agelenopsis potteri - Male
Brossard, Quebec, Canada
July 1, 2006
A male funnel web spider looking for a partner. Note the curled ducts of the palps.

I assume these are grass spiders, Agelenopsis but it seems that identifying grass spiders is not easy, however according to the web site ‘Araignées du Québec’ (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Araign%C3%A9es_du_Qu%C3%A9bec) there are four species of Agelenopsis known or suspected (asterisk) to occur in Quebec:-A. actuosa (Gertsch & Ivie, 1936) *, A. emertoni (Chamberlin & Ivie, 1935) * ,A. potteri (Blackwall, 1846), A. utahana (Chamberlin & Ivie, 1933). I would be happy to leave it as an Agelenopsis but is it possible to distinguish these possibilities from photos?

Please note these are related to the group , ,

A. potteri
Hi, Andrew-

Illona pointed me to this specimen. Of the four you mention, the only possibility with that hooked embolus on the pedipalp is Agelenopsis potteri.

Thanks
After submitting these images so long ago I had more or less given up on getting a result! Thanks, worth waiting for. I greatly appreciate your help.
