Life Cycle
Larvae of some species live gregariously as ectoparasitoids of leaf-feeding, free-living caterpillars. When mature, they pupate close to the host's remains on a leaf (the remains often fall away). These parasitoid larvae often pupate on leaves around their dead host. The pupae are naked, brown or black, ~2 mm long, with a tiny pile of yellow meconium beside each one.(2)
