The tylus is distinctive for this species so this can be moved to the species page (L. clypealus).

Leaf-footed bug.
Not a stink bug, but a relative in the family Coreidae. The "spike" on the 'nose' indicates this is probably Leptoglossus clypealis. Certainly in the genus Leptoglossus.

 
Maybe it's a midwestern thing
- although in general the term stink bugs is used for family Pentatomidae, I often heard leaf-footed bugs referred to as stink bugs when I lived in Ohio. They can be very smelly when they aggregate in large numbers, which I have always supposed was the origin of the usage.

Since the orange spot is only on one side, I suspect it's either a stain or a minor injury. I agree with Eric's ID, of course. First Iowa images for L. clypealis, too.
