Identification
A tailless gray hairstreak, with black submarginal and postmedian spots edged in white. Only a touch of orange above the large black spot on lower trailing edge of HW.
Range
Washington, through western California, through Colorado, and into northern New Mexico.
Habitat
Dry open areas near forests, mountains, and sagebrush.
Season
May-August, main flight June-July is C-A.
Food
Larva feeds on bitterbrush and mountain mahogany. Adults like to nectar on buckwheats.
Life Cycle
1 brood, overwinters as an egg.
