These have to be one of the worst groups to identify, with all the regional differences between closely related species. Thanks for getting the right id on this one.

Hi Tom,
I don't mean to stir the pot after two years, but this specimen strikes me more as Speyeria callippe than an Edward's. The extensive brown in the basal area and the terminal borders look closer to callippe. Also the characteristic sickle shaped black mark found in the Cu1 cell of edwardsii, is not present on this specimen, but is more bar shaped as in callippe. The ventral HW is tough, but given the more triangular shape of the terminal silver spots, I'd say this looks like a callippe characteristic as well.
Any thoughts?
