Collembola - Ptenothrix atra

Collembola - Ptenothrix atra
Norfolk, Virginia, USA
December 20, 2008
Size: ~2mm
Found on underside of bark in the leaf litter. This looks like Ptenothrix atra. One of the larger ones that I've seen.

Ptenothrix atra
Indeed. Well done!
Note the upwards directed macrosetae on the 6th abdominal segment (the 1st mall one) typical for Ptenothrix. Note the white feet and antennal apices typical for atra.

Thanks!
Thanks to your information and excellent website, I'm learning a great deal about Collembola.
