Blueberry Bee - Osmia ribifloris - male

Blueberry Bee - Osmia ribifloris - Male
Sierra Vista, Cochise County, Arizona, USA
January 17, 2009
First of three individuals photographed. They were coming to flowers at a Point Leaf Manzanita, Arctostaphylos pungens. Dozens of these bees were present. Lower oak zone. The flowers have holes in them, not sure what made them.

Wonderful
to be able to get to species on this one. I can hardly wait for the manzanita to start blooming...should begin in December. Thanks, John.

Flower holes
Maybe nectar-robbing holes of a short-tongued bumblebee? I'm not sure if the holes are placed quite right for getting at the nectaries, but maybe.
