Flatheaded Mayfly - Maccaffertium vicarium

Flatheaded Mayfly - Maccaffertium vicarium
Eramosa River, Guelph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada
January 13, 2009
Size: 12 mm
In detritus. Size measurement excludes cerci. Stenonema sp., I think.

Moved
Moved from Maccaffertium.

Checked
The posterolateral projections on Ab9 are indeed longer than the ones on Ab8.

ID
Yes, it does look like vicarium. I'll check for the spines

Maccaffertium vicarium
Although a ventral view would help to confirm the identification, the dorsal pattern of dark bands across the the rear of the abdominal segments is typical of vicarium. (Older synonyms are Stenonema vicarium and fuscum.) This species also has a posterolateral projection on Ab9 that is as long or longer than the projection on Ab8.
