Numbers
The genus Probole includes three species. Unreviewed/unpublished works recommend lumping these species. Those findings are not universally accepted.
Identification
In 2007 it was revised using evidence from studies of morphology, mitochondrial DNA, and development. These studies suggested that all the moths in the genus are actually members of a single species, Probole amicaria, making the genus monotypic.
Range
most of North America, including the central arctic (Northwest Territories) but not western or eastern arctic
