Banded Argiope - Argiope trifasciata - Male
Ogier Ponds, Morgan Hill, Santa Clara County, California, USA
September 19, 2008
Size: ~10 mm
ID based on this specimen's presence in the web of a female. Disposition of legs with femoral segments together is characteristic of the genus; also of note: pattern on dorsal side of abdomen is similar to that found on ventral side of female.

Anecdote: I have seen one of these males switch to the underside of the web and run across it to the other side, passing right under the female, then swing back through the web to the original side. (!?)
