Fly - Pollenia

Fly - Pollenia
Elkton, Douglas County, Oregon, USA
August 28, 2008
Size: 1/4 inch or less
Don't really know where to begin with this fly. The abdominal pattern, the pollen on its back and that it seemed to be sipping blackberries made me think possibly a syrphid, but the hairiness makes me think otherwise. Any assistance to ID would be appreciated.
