Identification
Determination to species in this large genus of almost 30 species is quite difficult; in at least some cases (pictilis, capitata) the female genitalia are considered indistinguishable. Species determinations here in BugGuide therefore should be viewed with caution.
Range
From Alaska and James Bay in the north, to Central America and the West Indies; most occur east of the Rocky Mountains from southern Canada to the Gulf States (Dondale 1959).
