Darkling Beetle - Xylopinus saperdoides

Darkling Beetle - Xylopinus saperdoides
Boxborough, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
July 6, 2005
Size: 12-14mm

Tenebrionidae: Tenebrioninae: Xylopinus rufipes?
I think maybe Xylopinus rufipes. Also about 25 mm long?

Xylopinus rufipes?
I tried googling up Xylopinus rufipes, and couldn't find anything, and Nearctica only lists X. aenescens and X. saperdoides under Xylopinus. But this site lists a red-legged variety of Xylopinus saperdoides.

Genus needs revision!
There are several comments in the literature that allude to this genus needing a revision. However, Xylopinus rufipes is an available name and this is where this specimen would go if it is a valid name (sorry for the taxonomic talk). We do have this red-legged form in NH, and I have identified it as X. rufipes, but again, the genus is in need of revision.

Placement?
Donald, should this have it's own page as Xylopinus rufipes, and leave the black-legged one as Xylopinus saperdoides?
