Well...
Some forewing features in this California specimen appear to be more pronounced and melanic than its Canadian cousins, others are not. If only five species exist in NA, then I would say this matches V. obsoleta the best. However, there is a strong suggestion here that another form exists that has not yet been identified, so I would leave this under Venusia for now.

but I don't know which one...options might be V. cambrica, or V. duodecemlineata
