Clay-colored Leaf Beetle, Anomoea laticlavia?
If not, it must be in the same genus. Compare with
these
images.

Thanks Jim.
I have been waiting for an ID. I moved it to the genus, but I do not know enogh about them to place it in a species. I will look for species records in FL.
Unfortunately I never saw the underside.
Just browsed and this is what I found, but no images to compare to-
Anomoea Agassiz
A. laticlavia angustata Schaeffer, the claycolored leaf beetle, GA-FL (ALA, BAK, LIB, LEO)
A. nitidicollis crassicornis Schaeffer, AL-FL (ALA, CHA, COLL, DAD, IND, JAC, JEF, LIB)
Both species are found in Alachua County. Gilchrist County borders Alachua, so I would say it is a toss up.
Does this info give you a better idea?

Closer to yours
Image on
North Dakota State University
site is a closer match to your beetle. It looks like this species ranges from no medial black stripe to a very wide one. I think it's safe to move it to species.
There are quite a few images on the Forestry Images Web site too, which suggests this species is considered a pest of deciduous trees.

Ok
I placed it to the subspecies level. Let me know if you disagree.
