Moth pupa - Phryganidia californica

Moth pupa - Phryganidia californica
San Gregorio, San Mateo County, California, USA
July 29, 2008
Size: 11 mm

Moved
Moved from Phryganidia. Thanks! See my comment on this image:

I've been waiting and looking for a match for this one, finally
I think it's come along. It is actually, I think, genus Phryganidia. If not, it is something closely related. Indeed a moth.

Moved from Brushfooted Butterflies.

Moved
Moved from Unidentified Pupae and Cocoons. I don't know on what grounds I was calling this a moth pupa... the color pattern is very similar to some nymphalid chrysalises.

not an identification,
but I thought it interesting to note how much this superficially resembles some Speyeria pupae. I don't mean to suggest this is even a butterfly, though it does appear to have a well-developed cremaster.

An example of Speyeria nokimis, similar in some details, very different in most, can be seen here.
