amanda?
This one looks like
amanda
to me with the reddish-brown hue that is absent in
averna
. Plus it is solidly in the range of
amanda
and outside the range of
averna
.

This seems pretty far north for averna
any chance it is amanda?

Maybe
You could be right. There
are
records of
averna
in Yavapai and Gila counties, apparently never beyond the mountain region. Where Robert photo'd this one, being a good bit WSW of Prescott, it would still be within the range *if* other records for Yavapai county are reliable.
I will say though, this specimen
does
have the paler scaling in the median costal area, so it may in fact be
amanda
. I don't do much with SW moths, so anyone more experienced with moths of that area could definitely help point us in the right direction.
For what it's worth, the only photo of
amanda
currently for BugGuide (
Photo#759865
), to me, looks misidentified. So if this one of Robert's does turn out to be
amanda
, it should be our first
true
amanda
for the guide. :-)

Heterocampa
It's either
Heterocampa lunata
, or another
Heterocampa averna
. Sometimes they can look fairly similar.

Thanks JD.
