finally started working on this family, and fortunately there's only a handfull found in the northeast. This one appears to be Acylomus piceous, one of two of the genus in the northeast. Corrections welcome :)

Moved from Acylomus piceus.

With a few exceptions, the North American Phalacridae are not currently amenable to species-level IDs. This may well be a female of the abundant eastern species A. ergoti (males of that species have expanded hind tibiae). You must've used Downie & Arnett, they are the only ones to misspell the species name (it is actually A. piceus). In reality there are more than two spp. of Acylomus in the northeast.


for the caution, Matt. Yes, I did use D&A (mistakes and all, still the best thing going covering the entire field of play). I'll be very satisfied with genus-level, but if there's any other views that would help, please let me know.
