small nymph - Periphyllus

small nymph - Periphyllus
Quebec, Canada
June 7, 2007
This is a very small pale green nymph (or at least I assume it is a nymph) on the trunk of a maple tree, I have no idea what it is, even what general type of insect. Any help would be appreciated.

Pretty sure this is an aphid.
I'm thinking Periphyllus. I know it's been a long time but were there maples nearby?

Hi Natalie, thanks for your update, that's very interesting. Yes, it was on a Norway maple tree. (I am certain about the tree because the photo was part of a mini "project" to photograph any and all living things I could find on a single tree over a period of time, so your information fills in a blank and adds a new twist to the story).

Moved from True Bugs.

Hemiptera.
Obviously something in the order Hemiptera:-) Wish I could get you to a family.

Thanks
That's progress over what I had figured on my own! I will leave it here for a little while longer, but if there are no further suggestions I will remove it.
