Season
Two species fly in winter, the others in late spring and early summer.
Remarks
One species, C. pecuarum is the "buffalo gnat" of the Southern Mississippi River region which caused great loss of livestock in the 19th century. Another species, C. dacotensis, is one of the few black flies with male eyes that do not touch.
