Flower Beetle - Trichodes ornatus
Wolf Creek, Josephine County, Oregon, USA

We were driving up Wolf Creek to get to the Rogue River and stopped to take pictures of Clarkia again (Meriwether needn't be concerned because we took pictures of Lewisia later!), only to find a new surprise inside. We're thinking this is the same as Tom's recent Ornate Checkered Beetle - Trichodes ornatus from Colorado.

Trichodes ornatus.
Indeed, it is Trichodes ornatus. They can be somewhat variable in the amount of yellow markings. I think some even have red instead of yellow.
