Explanation of Names
Authors: Eiseman & Lonsdale, 2018 (1)
The specific epithet refers to the patterning of frass in the leaf mine, which is reminiscent of the spotted pattern of the leopard, Panthera pardus (L.).
Remarks
Larvae form long, narrow, entirely linear mines in Symphyotrichum. The distinctive leaf mines of this species have been attributed to Ophiomyia quinta in the past, but the only confirmed specimen of that species is the holotype, which was caught rather than reared.
