Remarks
A very difficult area in lygaeoid systematics. M. rubicollis has been often misidentified as M. lateralis, which is a widespread common species in the central and w. US. The sympatric lateralis has more extensive red coloration extending along the sides of the corium and on the pronotum. Brailovsky has described a bunch of species that may be M. lateralis, as it is very variable." (M.H. Sweet, pers. comm. to =v=)
