Gall growing in a small tree - Callirhytis quercuspunctata

Gall growing in a small tree - Callirhytis quercuspunctata
Edwin B Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge , Ocean County, New Jersey, USA
February 22, 2009
Size: 3 cm
This one is for Charley. The gall was in a small, scrawny tree that I couldn’t identify (have pictures, though), very close to water. Gall, slightly over 3 cm; holes 1 mm in average. I opened a couple of them, of course the occupants are long gone, but I saw what looks like the remnants of cocoons and frass.
If no good, I may frass the whole thing.

Gouty oak gall
I believe this is the gouty oak gall, Cynipidae: Callirhytis quercuspunctata.

Cynipidae
I had the suspicion that it could be something like that, didn't expect species ID, though. Great! Is it certain enough to move to guide page?

I think so...
...and I just moved it! I'm reasonably confident because I spent a while looking through Felt (1940) a few weeks ago to confirm the ID of a similar gall a friend had photographed, and there didn't seem to be anything very similar to it.
