This insect comes in two color phases: the brown form appears in spring, or if the summer is cool; the iridescent form in hot summer. Occasional specimens may be a mixture of colors.

I also wondered the same thing, but then thought of the thousands(?) if species and what a job it would be.
Anyway the paintings are fantastic.
