Adult and hatchling Isotomidae - Isotomurus palustris

Adult and hatchling Isotomidae - Isotomurus palustris
Roseville, Placer County, California, USA
March 20, 2009
Size: about 3mm for the adult
I couldn't get an adult and a hatchling of these in the same frame, so I pasted separate images together taken at the same magnification to show relative sizes.

Isotomurus cf. maculatus
Note the typical crown shaped pattern on the posterior body segments.
Christiansen & Bellinger (1998) say 'no valid nearctic records seen'.
However, there are several nearctic records at Bugguide and Flickr of I. maculatus.
I will use the 'cf.' clause as long as the records are not published by USA authorities.

Note on the size of just hatched specimens. Assume the egg is 0.1 mm in diameter and the embryo is rolled up in the egg head-to-tail-wise, then the size of the hatched specimen is about 0.314 mm.
