Ants - Formica montana - female

Ants - Formica montana - Female
Warrenville, DuPage County, Illinois, USA
March 22, 2009
Size: 5-7mm
Brownish/reddish ants, very common, big hills.

Moved from Ants.

Thanks for the ID.

Formicinae: Formica
Looking at the larger version of the picture, one can just make out the bristles that adorn the rear margin of the head and the dorsum of the mesosoma of the ant on the right, clinching the ID (along with color and mound info) as Formica montana.
