Thanks...it was purely by accident
I was scanning a small area on a piece of wood trying to center a small mite when this little springtail walked into view. I had the magnification up to the maximum and just followed it along as it foraged.

No...
The magnification is high enough and the viewfinder bright enough, I can focus pretty easily.
