Cropping
If you can crop these from your originals and still get a good image of the beetle, post it, then I might be able to identify the species. It may be Acmaeodera acuta.

genus Acmaeodera (family Buprestidae) indeed
'which one' is a good question -- the group is a large and tough one (144 US spp.), and the picture, well, sketchy -- but with a great deal of luck an expert may recognize it

Moving to genus page for now...

Metallic Flower-boring Beetle
Are Buprestidae often found on flowers?

A quick review of Bug Guide images reveals...
Most such beetles are shot on either on flowers or on pins. Perhaps the larvae are the ones that do the boring?

Seen in woods
Every buprestid I've ever seen has been on a leaf in woods. (That would be one.)

Adult Acmaeodera are mostly found on flowers
so are Agrilus and Anthaxia.

Adult feeding habit
The vast majority of species in the genus Agrilus are not found on flowers. They are leaf-feeders.

Well, that is unanimous.
Maybe you should look at more flowers. (I know I should look at more leaves.)

yes
The larva are the ones that bore into the wood. Buprestids can also be found commonly on tree branches, especially trunks. I've heard that the best ways to get them is beating or even better, raising larvae in the host wood. I have yet to try this, but I know it's the most effective way to get buprestids.

Thanks
for the correction, I cant keep it all straight!

Doing pretty well so far :-)
Doing pretty well so far :-)

I'm happy to see some Buprestid photos turning up, it's still way too cold here in Kansas

I hate it for you
in Kansas! I wear shorts and tshirts every day!! My relatives on the east coast hate me too, until it hits 118 out here.
