Deer Fly
Looks like another Chrysops Deer Fly. There are a couple species photographed by the Stricklands from the Gulf Coast area with similar eye and wing markings.

Thanks John, brightened up other 2 images but do
not wish to delete your comment so I'll leave this on alone. Spoke
with Gayle on the phone and these images were underexposed and not quite the right color.

Looks like Crysops callidus

My thoughts...
This does look similar to C. callidus but I think the apical spot is too wide in your specimen. The first basal cell is more infuscated as well. I cast my vote for C. dimmocki. I think the other option I considered was C. sackeni but this doesn't really fit. Granted the outer margin of the crossband looks a bit off and I'm a bit rusty with my tabanids as I've been focusing on other groups. I'd definitely wait and see what Dr. Burger or TT have to say.

Thanks, requested page
for dimmocki
