I think I saw a worn specimen of this on here the other day, but I am not sure. I would like confirmation on Catocala nebulosa 8796 before adding to the guide

Here is the worn one
These images, of one moth, I posted the other day:
Sure looks like mine is a worn version of yours. That basal dark area on the forewing is pretty distinctive, to my non-Catocala-expert eye. Covell

mentions that, and the illustration on his plate 36 looks close--for what that's worth--moth expert I am not. Hopefully one of the moth people will chime in.

Definitely.
I am no moth expert either, but this is a distinctive moth, relatively consistent in its markings. It was one of my prize Catocala species I took in downtown Cincinnati (pre-waterfront construction and before banishment of smokers to the front of buildings:-(
