Green larva on coyote brush (1 of 3) - Trirhabda flavolimbata
Carpinteria Salt Marsh Nature Park, Carpinteria, CA, Santa Barbara County, California, USA
April 2, 2009
Size: 15 mm
I previously posted a not-very-good image of these green larva that I've been seeing on coyote brush (Baccharis pilularis) at the Carpinteria Salt Marsh Nature Park in Carpinteria, CA. Some commenters mentioned wanting to see more detail, including of the legs and prolegs. There also was a discussion of the size (I had said originally "2-3 cm", but I was kind of guessing after the fact). I went back this morning and got some better photos, and more-carefully assessed the size. I now think the largest specimens were around 15mm in length. This is image 1 of 3.
