Explanation of Names
"The present author has the pleasure of naming this new species for Mr. Charles P. Kimball, who kindly placed at the author's disposal his material on the Tortricidae of Florida, including the present new species." Charles Kimball (1897-1982) collected extensively in Florida after 1946, especially microlepidoptera, and although describing none himself, 10 species are named for him. (2), (1)

Forewing length 6-8 mm. (1)
Range
Austin et al. (2019) report a range in the US from e. TX to TN, MD, FL, with most records from the Gulf coast and FL; also recorded from The Bahamas.
Holotype male, Archbold Biological Station, Highlands County, Florida, February 10, 1958 (R.W. Pease, Jr.). Allotype female, same data but February 22, 1958.

Argyrotaenia velutinana (Walker) - kimballi differs in having the basal area of forewings much paler costad, and the costal spot between the median fascia and wing apex consisting of three more or less distinctly separated parts.
