False Metallic Wood-boring Beetle
Marlton, Burlington County, New Jersey, USA
September 4, 2008
Size: Maybe around 2.5 mm?
Just posting a few images to hopefully replace this horror. I'll post a few different ones/views to see if it is possible to get past Throscidae ?
Came to the light at night

tiny ones
great images of the tiny ones lately John! Is that your new SD1100 making the difference?

Thanks
Some of it is the difference between the 1000 and the 1100. The 1100 has a 1 inch close focus instead of 2 inch in the 1000.
Also some of my very old images were long exposure F 2.8 using the porch lights, like the one I replaced above (ugggh).
Now I have slowly found better and better ways to use the flash and to properly compensate for the fact that I'm only an inch away. I am currently using 2 crumpled coffee filters with centerholes, dropped over the lense and folded back over the camera. Knocks the flash down nicely and doesn't alter the white-balance too much. This series was made using a styrofoam plate with a hole cut out, which was better than the block I was using at your house, but not as good as the coffee filters. I plan on doing better this year ;-)

place on fam page pls
underside is critical to key out genera, but there's hope, trust me

Thanks
I get these a lot. I'll try to get underside next time.
