Black Swallowtail - Papilio polyxenes - Female
Parkwood, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
July 14, 2003
Freshly emerged. Male or female? (Comments welcome.)

Moved
Moved from Black Swallowtail.

female
The blunt end of the fat abdomen with no claspers make it easy to tell. Look at some male Swallowtail photos, and you will see the obvious claspers at the tip of the abdomen.
