Blood-necked Longhorned Beetle - Callimoxys fuscipennis

Blood-necked Longhorned Beetle - Callimoxys fuscipennis
Auburn, Placer County, California, USA
April 4, 2009

Moved
Moved from Callimoxys sanguinicollis.

A couple months late, but moved to the correct spot at last.

or Callimoxys fuscipennis?
I think sanguinicollis is an eastern only species.

Cerambycine?
I looked in Lepturinae, but couldn't find a good match. Of the species that the guide has for California, I thought that Calli*moxys sanguini*collis (Blood-necked Longhorned Beetle) looked the most promising. Here's a picture:

Be sure to read the comments on the image above as the notes on gender coloration are quite interesting.

As always, I am definitely only guessing, so please wait for someone with more expertise to confirm.

Yes
Harsi is correct, and its a male, according to Yanega (1996) females have a red pronotum

Question...
Guy, thanks for confirming the ID on this one. I don't have any print references of my own to back this up, but according to Jim McClarin's comment on this image, he indicates that while all males have a black pronotum, some females may also show a black pronotum at times. Does this leave the gender of Kevin's beetle in question?
