Tibicen latifasciatus (MALE verso) - Neotibicen latifasciatus - Male
Dunnellon, Marion County, Florida, USA
Tibicen latifasciatus (syn. T. pruinosus var. latifasciatus):
Dunnellon, Marion Co., FL (01 Sept 2008)
Lat. 29.04 (65-75 ft. a.s.l.)
coll. R. V.

NOTE: tan opercula & ventral abdominal black stripe - this stripe is greatly reduced and broken in T. pruinosus and absent or nearly absent in T. winnemana!

Tibicen latifasciatus (syn. T. pruinosus var. latifasciatus): Male, verso
Dunnellon, Marion Co., FL (01 Sept 2008)

While most consider latifasciatus to be a subspecies or variety of pruinosus - I still have reservations and agree with earlier publications suggesting species status.

These are beautiful cicadas and increasingly difficult to find! I suspect habitat loss due to development may be the primary reason.
