Tibicen winnemanna (MALE verso) - Neotibicen winnemanna - male

Tibicen winnemanna (MALE verso) - Neotibicen winnemanna - Male
Garner, Wake County, North Carolina, USA
September 14, 2008
NOTE: ochreous oblique opercula & lack of a ventral black stripe on the abdomen - in T. pruinosus the ventral stripe is greatly reduced and broken and in T. winnemanna absent or nearly absent as seen here!

While many consider T. winnemanna to be a subspecies or variety of pruinosus - there are some slight differences.

These cicadas were collected between 7:00-8:00 pm while "singing" the typical T. winnemanna/pruinosus group song.
