Yellow-bellied Bee Assassin - Apiomerus flaviventris - female

Yellow-bellied Bee Assassin - Apiomerus flaviventris - Female
Desert Hot Springs, Riverside County, California, USA
April 7, 2009
Size: around 15 mm
It was a great trip. This was my last bug found today at around noon. I'll have a bunch of other bugs to post in the upcoming days. I took many of the images on this trip with an 18-200 lens (all taken without a tripod). It has a different look, but it's very versatile.

This is the first image for this bug in CA.

Nice female.
Pretty certain of the gender. Male assassins tend to be, um, "narrower." :-)

Awesome bug

Congrats on your CA first.
Nice find, nice shot, nice way to wrap up your trip. Good going, Lynette!

Wait a minute!
...was that a Tamron 18-200mm?

If so, I had that lens for my Rebel XTi! I enjoyed it quite a bit, but ending up selling it to buy other equipment. Your photos are always excellent. Probably more to do with the part behind the viewfinder!

Cannon 18-200
with image stabilizer. It's great for larger subjects like lizards and plants.

I guess everyone is making them now...
...But Tamron was the first!
