Size: 1/4 inch (approx.)
These tiny black ants were found under a rock in my yard. There were well over a hundred of them present, most of them guarding an egg. Any clues to genus or species?

Those are awfully big to be eggs of this species...

Could be
Looks like a Tapinoma species to me. Maybe someone else can confirm that. Lasius is another possibility but let someone else voice their opinion.
