Black Ants with Larvae -
Tapinoma sessile
Savannah, Andrew County, Missouri, USA
April 8, 2009
Size: 1/4 inch (approx.)
These tiny black ants were found under a rock in my yard. There were well over a hundred of them present, most of them guarding an egg. Any clues to genus or species?

Larvae?
Those are awfully big to be eggs of this species...

Could be
Looks like a Tapinoma species to me. Maybe someone else can confirm that. Lasius is another possibility but let someone else voice their opinion.
