Weird black and white fly. - Dictya

Weird black and white fly. - Dictya
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, USA
April 10, 2009
Size: 3/8 inch
This black and white speckled fly (even the wings were speckled) was in my car. I first thought it was a moth because of the way it flew--it knew where it was going and got there in a hurry. No buzzing around. Anyone know what it is?

Fly identification
Dictya sp., family Sciomyzidae (snail-killing flies). Can't determine species without genitalic examination. Note the white face with the black dot - diagnostic for Dictya.

Thank you!
Now I know what it was doing at my house (the Snail Capitol of the World.)

Sciomyzidae
Probably a Marsh Fly(1).

That's it!
Thanks for doing the research. Looks just like it.
