galls -
Celticecis spiniformis
Overland Park, Johnson County, Kansas, USA

I'm assuming this is a gall caused by some sort of insect ? Any ideas?

Celticecis spiniformis
looks like a good match. If you don't think there are any hackberry trees at the park, I'll have to reconsider.

Galls
Most likely caused by cynipid wasps or cecidomyiid midges, but I'd have to know the host plant to figure it out. Do you have a shot of the whole leaf?

gall leaf
I'm not sure that I photo'd the whole leaf at that time, but I see that it's important on these galls. I'll do some digging to see if I did, and will post if I have more. Thanks for the help.
