Different (and new) subfamily
which is why this has stumped me for so long. This is Agabetes acuductus (Harris), the only Nearctic species in its subfamily Agabetinae. The dense aciculate (consisting of short longitudinal lines) sculpture of the elytra is characteristic of this genus. Species is widespread in eastern North America but probably no where common. Dorsal coloration is reddish brown with sides of pronotum and elytra broadly reddish.
